Independent Curator & Culture Strategist

Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura

Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura is a culture strategist and independent curator based in London, working across music, contemporary art and film.

She spent twelve years at NTS Radio, joining a six-person team and leaving as Director of Music & Programming. As part of the executive leadership team, she was pivotal in the platform growing to 50+ staff and an audience of over four million monthly listeners. As Creative Director she held overall responsibility for NTS's creative output across radio, events, design and partnerships, steering the platform through 2020–21 and leading creative and music strategy for adidas, Netflix, Dr. Martens, Diesel, Uniqlo and YouTube Music, alongside cultural collaborations with Tate Modern and MOCA LA. Her work at NTS included Top Boy Academy, a free industry-access programme for working-class 16–25 year olds made with Netflix, and a 25-hour International Migrants Day broadcast on the impact of migration on British music culture.

She now works independently, advising music platforms, brands, and arts institutions on cultural strategy, positioning, and programming. Recent clients include Boiler Room, Resident Advisor, and the Hartwig Art Foundation in Amsterdam.

Her curatorial practice expands across Europe: curator-in-residence at Somerset House Studios, an interdisciplinary commission bringing together music, visual art and dance at Haus der Kunst, and co-curator of the Paulo Cunha e Silva Art Prize in Porto.

As a music director her credits include The African Desperate (dir. Martine Syms), A Radical Duet (dir. Onyeka Igwe), and the dance productions GONER and AIR BODY SAD (chor. Malik Nashad Sharpe). Her book After Hours: Clubbing on Film, co-edited with Ana David and Maria Ferreira, was published by Batalha Centro de Cinema in April 2026.

She has spoken for the British Council, Somerset House, Dekmantel and Unsound, and her work has been covered by the New York Times, The Guardian and GQ. She hosted the TTB show on NTS for over a decade and continues to DJ under the same name.
