Andrew Melchior, Speaker Music Frontiers 2025, Sept in Berlin

Andrew Melchior is a British-German creative technologist, producer, and artist working at the intersection of music, immersive media, and emerging technologies. With a career spanning over two decades, he is best known for his pioneering collaborations with artists including David Bowie, Björk, and Massive Attack, helping shape new modes of artistic expression through digital innovation.

In the late 1990s whilst with EMI Records, Melchior supported the development and innovations of BowieNet, David Bowie’s groundbreaking artist-led internet service, and went on to broker the first mobile music licensing deal between a major recording artist and a mobile phone company (Nokia).

As Technical Advisor to Björk since 2014, Melchior has produced a series of immersive projects under the Björk Digital banner, including the award-winning VR experiences Stonemilker, Not Get and the Vulnicura VR Album, showcasing his ability to translate complex musical and emotional material into fully immersive environments.

He has served as Creative Director and CTO for Massive Attack, where he developed the Fantom app, a groundbreaking music experience using facial recognition, biosensors, and location data to generate personal remixes. His work with the band has included the encoding of the Mezzanine album into synthetic DNA, and the development of AI-driven neural network music tools exhibited at the Barbican Centre and beyond.

In 2017, he was named one of Creative Review’s “Creative Leaders 50.” Through his studio, Third Space Agency, Melchior continues to develop technologically innovative cultural projects that explore the future of media, narrative, and sound. His recent work includes The Logos - an immersive, spatial audio installation built around the real-time sonification of Fast Radio Bursts in collaboration with MIT physicist Kiyoshi Masui and philosopher Timothy Morton.

Melchior is a regular speaker at festivals, labs, and institutions exploring the future of art, sound, and human–machine creativity.

He is currently based in Kraków, Poland.
